The Libertines Reading/Leeds 2010

“If you’ve lost your faith in love or music oh the end won’t be long…” -The Libertines

My faith in love and music is always strong. Sometimes I lose my faith in the internet and then something like this comes along. The Beeb (BBC) did a wonderful service to the music enjoying public by taping The Libertines comeback show at Reading Festival. They are available on youtube, vimeo and other music blogs.  A review of the show can be found here courtesy of the NME .

I was lucky enough to see The Libertines live in about 2004. Pete did not make the trip but it was great with Carl, Gary & John. I loved their debut album and live I didn’t miss Pete at all. It was definitely my album of the year for that year and their concert was my concert of the year in 2004. It is surprising that Pete is not dead the way he treats himself. Pete’s solo stuff (Babyshambles) and Carl’s solo stuff (Dirty Pretty Things) never hit the same high mark as when they are battling back and forth as The Libertines. Pete will probably never be able to tour America with all the drug possession charges that he has.  This is what makes the BBC recording and the internet delivery so wonderful and regains my faith in the www. I can sit here at my desk and see the old lads singing about the good old days.

About Spool Going Round

If you like my blog and have access to programming and would like to do a radio/internet show together, please contact me. My name is Mike. I am an on-air radio DJ. I fell in love with radio in Chicago and then took that passion to someplace where I could actually get on the air. My travels took me to Seattle, WA, Eugene and Portland, OR and Washington D.C., where I was able to have my own morning show. I've had crab cakes with Warren Zevon, sat backstage and interviewed Sting, had Melissa Etheridge sing to me from the front row and I loved every minute of it. That passion for music still burns strong in me and I love to talk music and be turned on to music. Sharing new music with people is what got me interested in radio in the first place. It is wonderful to be able to talk music with you. "Go ahead you're on the air..." Read more:
