We continue looking at the Top 10 best live performance as chosen by Spool Going Round from all the years David Letterman, and his band leader Paul Shaffer, have been on the air. Talking Head are up today at #8.
Talking Heads, much like The Smiths, have all the original members still active and musical, but refuse to mend their differences and give the fans what they want. Whenever a great band like this decides not to tour there is some fans that pull together and play around as a tribute to the band. Chicago has its very own Talking Heads tribute band called This Must Be The Band.
Fun is definitely what will be had when you watch this video from 1983 of Talking Heads doing “I Zimbra” on Letterman. What great rhythm to get you groovin’. Check out David Byrne’s moves. He is like nothing before him. There is a lot of people on stage but how can you take your eyes off him. This is when late night television was far out. The only people up at these hours were the derelicts and beer-bong influenced college kids. No one was watching so let’s be as crazy as we want to be. Who knew they would go on to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
At #8 we have Talking Heads with “I Zimbra.”
