I try to be open minded to all things. Usually when speaking about music I love all forms of rock music and am really passionate on the subject. I tend to steer away from rap music. Now is there some good rap music and rap artists out there, of course. Same is true with country music. Usually when I denounce country music someone no doubt comes back with “what about Johnny Cash, or Willie Nelson?” I agree they wrote great songs and had the attitude of rock ‘n roll within them. I do not support the white-trash-pickup truck-mom’s in jail crap shilled out on country radio. Which in the USA these radio stations out number all others at least 3 to 1. Take a drive across this vast country and your pickup truck will be filled to the brim with audible manure.
Now what about country music from another country? Now that’s interesting. Country music from Sweden?
Enter First Aid Kit a band of sisters from Sweden whose songs are very country music leaning. They have also delivered what might be my song of the summer, My Silver Lining. I LOVE IT! This is what makes music great and why I continue to search out new music. I could easily listen to just the music I have obtained over the years and it would last the rest of my life without hearing a repeat. But I would miss out on that rush of hearing something new, creative, artistic, and that is what makes life worth living. It is the silver lining. I listen to this song at least once a day. I go through my day knowing “I won’t take the easy road.” If I hit a stumbling block I think in my head “I got to try keep on keeping on.” This song is wonderful.
I have yet to fully appreciate the album which is titled STAY GOLD. Chances are this will not fall in my top 10, 20, or even honorable mentions for album of the year. But song of the year, maybe. Song of the summer. Here it is!
Including a stop in Chicago at The Vic this fall. Chicago tix here
New Album is Stay Gold
