The world seems to get crazier every day. This election has got everyone questioning our leaders and wondering where our heroes are at? Maybe the craziest thing to ever happen, just happened. The Cubs won the World Series!
The little team that couldn’t for 108 years found a way they could. It was with a bunch of good guys who had each other’s back and the least likely to rise took a step up when those around them were down. It was a team effort and it took strength and a positive outlook to overcome time, curse, bad attitudes, settling for less. It wasn’t easy. It took a lot of determination, but they did it!
I was born a Cub fan and today is one of the happiest days of my life. I remember all those Cubs fans who helped me along the way and the journey we took until their lives ran out and there wasn’t a World Championship in site. This is for all of them. My one grandfather would always have the Cubs game on WGN when we went over to his house. He didn’t talk much but we would watch those games rooting for our Cubbies. My other Grandfather would turn on the game on the radio and we would listen while my Grandmother went grocery or clothes shopping. She was in the mall and we were out in the parking lot glued to the radio. Listening to Harry Carry and Ron Santo taught me to love the game even more. All those listed in this paragraph are no longer with us but I believe they caught game 7 from wherever they are.
I’ve told the story before on how my radio was always tuned to AM for the Cubs games until one morning when I woke up at 10 years old and the AM switch had been accidentally moved to FM. This was how I discovered Rock and Roll and radio disk jockeys. That led me to a life long love or rock music, into being a disk jockey, and writing this blog. All the while never forgetting to turn over to AM when the Cubbies were playing.
I love this team. I love the Cubs.
Congratulations to all the Cubs team, management, ownership, and fans. I wake up today with a new optimism. We now live in a world where anything is possible.
Someday we will go all the way. Someday is NOW!
